Carbon Filters

There are many types of carbon filters on the market. Some of them are meant for filtering water while others deal with absorbing gases. They are popular kitchen equipment that are used to remove scents and smoke from the stove.

In water, they are a popular attachment to the tap. Carbon filters make use of activated charcoal as means of absorbing the unwanted elements. In water, they can absorb a great variety of things including dissolved organic materials.

They can also remove gasses and are commonly used in gas masks. They are also used as a chemical absorber. The surface area of such filters are usually wide to catch as many impurities within the filter.

Those designed for water cleansing have a positive charge that ultimately attract water contaminants that are negatively charged. As such, water filters are effective in removing organic materials and chlorine.

The two main types of activated charcoal used for carbon filters usually revolve around GAC (Granular activated carbon) and Powdered activated carbon. Carbon blocks are very effective as they have a large surface area. It should be noted that there is a limit to the amount these carbon filters can absorb.

Unfortunately, there is no indicator to such an event. As such, most manufacturers advise monthly changes to keep on the safe side.
